Hand Forged and Soldered in Sterling Silver, the links have a 1/2 round profile. The fancy pattern provides enough ornamentation to ensure that this is an everyday piece without the need for a pendant, but never the less not too plain.
The Fob Chain was first worn by Prince Albert, Husband and Consort to Queen Victoria.
In time they became a piece of everyday wear, even down here in the colonies and many a Gold Miner had his finds forged in to a Fob Chain by the Jewellers who worked on or near the Goldfields.
When watches began to be worn on the wrist instead of a fob, the Chains were often retired to the family collection and converted in to Neckaces by the Ladies of the younger generation.
The wearing of Fob Chains as Necklaces is not a universal practice, but is very widely spread through out New Zealand and I think we can accept this as part of our heritage.
